What is “Layering”?

The 10-Step Korean Skincare Regimen That Changed the Beauty Industry! Just that !

Have you ever wondered how Koreans achieve such beautiful, radiant skin? Their secret is now revealed! Korean women follow a 10-step skin care protocol that prevents skin aging and makes the skin look like it never ages.

It may be difficult to follow a 10-step diet, morning and evening daily but the results that have been observed will surely keep you motivated. Let’s talk about each step without further ado!

The 10 Steps – Korean Skin Care Routine

Before starting Layering or using any of these products, test by applying the product to the back of your hand and wait 24 hours. If you don't see any reaction, you can start the Korean beauty process.

Step 1 – Makeup remover (evening)

The first step of Layering consists of using a makeup remover to remove makeup and impurities (dust, excess sebum, pollution, etc.)

The makeup removers generally used are oil makeup removers, because there is nothing better than an oily substance to remove all impurities, oil removes everything, waterproof mascara, "high-hold" foundations , water-resistant sun protection, etc.

Don't neglect this step, even when you haven't worn makeup all day.

Step 2 – Cleanser (morning and evening)

The second step of the routine is to use a cleanser to get rid of sweat and accumulated impurities even deeper than makeup remover. Cleansing your face will also help remove excess oil from the previous step.

What is a low pH cleanser?

Human skin has a pH that varies between 4.7 and 5.7, which means it is low in acid. A cleanser with a pH higher than these is absolutely not recommended for your skin.

Step 3 - Exfoliating (once a week)

Exfoliation basically means removing dead cells from your skin. This step will make your skin brighter and firmer. It also helps improve the texture and tone of your skin. Use a gentle scrub that suits your skin type. Using the exfoliant is done once a week, in which case skip this step and go straight to the next one. to continue your Layering.

Step 4 - Tonic (morning and evening)

The toner is intended to complete makeup removal and cleansing, and remove any remaining residue from your face and balance the pH level of your skin. However, toners tend to decrease the natural oil in your skin and can make it dry and tight. Avoid using alcohol-based toners, get a toner that suits your skin type.

Step 5 - Essence / Serum / Ampoule (morning and evening)

An essence is truly one of the most vital parts of the Korean skincare regimen. It soothes your skin while healing it at the same time. An essence is packed with hydrating ingredients and also speeds up cell turnover.

The serum is a slightly concentrated and heavier version than an essence. It basically contains active ingredients to address specific skin concerns like wrinkles, pigmentation, and dark spots.

This step of the Korean skin care regimen also aims to improve overall skin health.

Step 6 – Emulsion/Lotion (morning and evening)

Your skin is now clear and ready to effectively absorb the most important ingredients. The emulsion has an aqueous part which aims to moisturize the skin while the oily part will nourish and protect it. The emulsion or lotion will serve as an undercoat for the moisturizer. This step of the Korean skin care regimen also aims to moisturize, prevent fine lines and wrinkles, and repair your skin.

Step 7 - Mask (morning and evening)

This Korean beauty product (sheet mask) has taken the industry by storm. The sheet masks are soaked in serum and are packed with vitamins and minerals. They are also extremely hydrated, leaving your skin soft and supple.

Step 8 - Eye cream (morning and evening)

The skin around your eyes is usually the first to show signs of aging. Eye creams are specially designed to address the thin skin under your eye called "vascular dark circles" and to prevent wrinkles, dark circles and crow's feet. They soothe the skin under your eyes and keep it hydrated.

Step 9 - Cream (morning and evening)

Hydrate!

Koreans believe this step is vital to lock in the previous layers. The cream will be used to lock in previously applied products.

If you have oily skin, use a lightweight lotion-based moisturizer. If your skin is dry, use a thick cream-based moisturizer to prevent your skin from feeling irritated.

Step 10 - Sun protection (morning)

Sunscreen protects your skin and protects it from harmful UV rays. Broad-spectrum sunscreen is recommended to prevent UVA and UVB rays from damaging your skin.

If you have oily skin, it is recommended to use a physical sunscreen or mineral sunscreen to avoid clogged pores.

Sunscreens come in different forms to suit your skin type and other preferences.

And your lips? No, no we don't forget them! Essential especially in cold weather: Lip balm , you can also add it as a last step. Lips also need to be hydrated and protected. If you use it in the morning it is recommended to use an SPF lip balm, in the evening however you can opt for a lip balm without SPF, nourishing and moisturizing.
